RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) polarization materials have emerged as promising candidates for meeting the demands of device miniaturization, attributed to their unique electronic configurations and transport characteristics. Although the existing inherent and sliding mechanisms have been increasingly investigated in recent years, strategies for inducing 2D polarization with innovative mechanisms remain rare. In this study, we introduce a novel 2D Janus state by modulating the puckered structure. Combining scanning probe microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and density functional theory calculations, we realized force-triggered out-of-plane and in-plane dipoles with distorted smaller warping in GeSe. The Janus state is preserved after removing the external mechanical perturbation, which could be switched by modulating the sliding direction. Our work offers a versatile method to break the space inversion symmetry in a 2D system to trigger polarization in the atomic scale, which may open an innovative insight into configuring novel 2D polarization materials. In recent years, researchers have shown a growing interest in the interactions between different pharmaceutical agents. An intriguing instance lies in the possible interaction between nimodipine and vitamin C. To investigate the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of vitamin C on nimodipine in rats, rats were randomly divided into a nimodipine only group and a combination group (nimodipine + vitamin C). The two groups were given intragastric administration and nimodipine blood concentrations were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrum at different time points. Blood pressure and heart rate were measured via carotid artery cannulation. Pharmacokinetic differences were observed between the nimodipine only group and the combination group at the same dose. Compared with the nimodipine only group, the combination group's main pharmacokinetic parameters of peak concentration and area under the curve increased significantly, and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05); furthermore, the combination group exhibited a significant reduction in average blood pressure, while no significant effects on heart rate were observed. Vitamin C did not affect the activity of CYP450 in rat liver. The pharmacokinetic characteristics and pharmacodynamics of nimodipine were changed by vitamin C administration in rats.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to elucidate the mechanism of beraprost sodium (BPS) in the intervention of myocardial fibrosis after myocardial infarction (MI) through glycogen synthase kinase-3ß (GSK-3ß) and to provide new ideas for intervention in myocardial fibrosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MI model rats given BPS and cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) treated with BPS and TGF-ß. HE staining and Masson staining were used to detect the pathological changes of myocardial tissue. Fibrotic markers were detected by immunohistochemical staining. The expressions of GSK-3ß, cAMP response element binding protein (CREB), and p-CREB were analyzed by qPCR and western blot analysis. EDU staining was used to detect the proliferation of CFs. The promoter activity of GSK-3ß was detected by luciferase assay. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay was used to detect the binding levels of GSK-3ß promoter and Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1). The levels of intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: After operation, BPS improved myocardial fibrosis and upregulated GSK-3ß protein expression in male SD rats. BPS can down-regulate α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) level and up-regulate GSK-3ß protein expression in CFs after TGF-ß stimulation. Furthermore, GSK-3ß knockdown can reverse the effect of BPS on TGF-ß-activated CFs, enhance α-SMA expression, and promote the proliferation of CFs. BPS could regulate GSK-3ß expression by promoting the binding of GSK-3ß promoter to YBX1. BPS induced upregulation of p-CREB and cAMP, resulting in reduced fibrosis, which was reversed by the knockdown of GSK-3ß or prostaglandin receptor (IPR) antagonists. CONCLUSION: BPS treatment increased the binding of YBX1 to the GSK-3ß promoter, and GSK-3ß protein expression was upregulated, which further caused the upregulation of p-CREB and cAMP, and finally inhibited myocardial fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) remains a public health problem. Tamoxifen (TAM) resistance has caused great difficulties for treatment of BC patients. Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 1 (EIF4EBP1) plays critical roles in the tumorigenesis and progression of BC. However, the expression and mechanism of EIF4EBP1 in determining the efficacy of TAM therapy in BC patients are still unclear. AIM: To investigate the expression and functions of EIF4EBP1 in determining the efficacy of TAM therapy in BC patients. METHODS: High-throughput sequencing data of breast tumors were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Differential gene expression analysis identified EIF4EBP1 to be significantly upregulated in cancer tissues. Its prognostic value was analyzed. The biological function and related pathways of EIF4EBP1 was analyzed. Subsequently, the expression of EIF4EBP1 was determined by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. Cell Counting Kit-8 assays, colony formation assay and wound healing assay were used to understand the phenotypes of function of EIF4EBP1. RESULTS: EIF4EBP1 was upregulated in the TAM-resistant cells, and EIF4EBP1 was related to the prognosis of BC patients. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis showed that EIF4EBP1 might be involved in Hedgehog signaling pathways. Decreasing the expression of EIF4EBP1 could reverse TAM resistance, whereas overexpression of EIF4EBP1 promoted TAM resistance. CONCLUSION: This study indicated that EIF4EBP1 was overexpressed in the BC and TAM-resistant cell line, which increased cell proliferation, invasion, migration and TAM resistance in BC cells.

We demonstrate a transmitter and receiver in a silicon photonics platform for O-band optical communication that monolithically incorporates a modulator driver, traveling-wave Mach-Zehnder modulator, control circuitry, photodetector, and transimpedance amplifier (TIA) in the GlobalFoundries Fotonix (45SPCLO) platform. The transmitter and receiver show an open 112 Gbps PAM4 eye at a 4.3 pJ/bit energy efficiency, not including the laser. Extensive use of gain-peaking enables our modulator driver and TIA to achieve the high bandwidths needed in the 45 nm CMOS-silicon photonics process. Our results suggest an alternative to the frequent approach of bump-bonding BiCMOS drivers and TIAs to silicon photonics.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of eight oral Chinese patent medicines in the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD) by network Meta-analysis. Randomized controlled trial(RCT) on the treatment of AECOPD with eight oral Chinese patent medicines was retrieved from databases including CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Web of Science, EMbase, and Cochrane Library from database inception to August 6, 2022. The information was extracted from the included literature and the quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. The data were analyzed using Stata SE 15.1 and ADDIS 1.16.8 software. Finally, 53 RCTs were included, with 5 289 patients involved, including 2 652 patients in the experimental group and 2 637 patients in the control group. Network Meta-analysis showed that Lianhua Qingwen Capsules+conventional western medicine were optimal in improving clinical effective rate, Shufeng Jiedu Capsules+conventional western medicine in improving FEV1/FVC, Qingqi Huatan Pills+conventional western medicine in improving FEV1%pred, Feilike Mixture(Capsules)+conventional western medicine in improving PaO_2, Lianhua Qingwen Capsules+conventional western medicine in reducing PaCO_2, and Qingqi Huatan Pills+conventional western medicine in reducing C-reactive protein(CRP). In terms of safety, most of them were gastrointestinal symptoms, and no serious adverse reactions were reported. When the clinical effective rate was taken as the comprehensive index of efficacy evaluation, Lianhua Qingwen Capsules+conventional western medicine were the most likely to be the best treatment for AECOPD. There are some limitations in the conclusion of this study. It only provides references for clinical medication.

Objective: Care patterns and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution affects the emotion and health of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) while the prevalence of COVID-19 may aggravate such patients' emotion and health. We investigated the depression and anxiety levels of patients with SSc during the pandemic to identify the correlation between care patterns, TCM constitution, and patients' emotion. Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Patients with SSc and healthy individuals were surveyed using the patient health questionnaire-9, generalized anxiety disorder-7, and constitution in Chinese medicine questionnaire and a modified care pattern questionnaire. Factors correlated with depression and anxiety were screened using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: A total of 273 patients with SSc and 111 healthy individuals were included in the analysis. The proportion of patients with SSc who were depressed was 74.36%, who had anxiety was 51.65%, and who experienced disease progression during the pandemic was 36.99%. The proportion of income reduction in the online group (56.19%) was higher than that in the hospital group (33.33%) (P = 0.001). Qi-deficiency [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 2.250] and Qi-stagnation (adjusted OR = 3.824) constitutions were significantly associated with depression. Remote work during the outbreak (adjusted OR = 1.920), decrease in income (adjusted OR = 3.556), and disease progression (P = 0.030) were associated with the occurrence of depression. Conclusion: Chinese patients with SSc have a high prevalence of depression and anxiety. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the care patterns of Chinese patients with SSc, and work, income, disease progression, and change of medications were correlates of depression or anxiety in patients with SSc. Qi-stagnation and Qi-deficiency constitutions were associated with depression, and Qi-stagnation constitution was associated with anxiety in patients with SSc. As a novel strategy, peracetic acid (PAA) based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are being used in micropollutant elimination due to their high oxidation and low toxicity. In this study, Co2Ca1Al1-LDO as a kind of layered double oxides (LDOs) was successfully synthesized, and it is the first time to apply Co2Ca1Al1-LDO for activating PAA. The Co2Ca1Al1-LDO/PAA system showed excellent removal efficiencies for various micropollutants with removal ratios ranging from 90.4% to 100% and k values from 0.087 min-1 to 0.298 min-1. In the degradation period, various reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in the system, while organic radicals (R-O•) with a high concentration of 5.52 × 10-13 M are the dominant ROS in the contaminants degradation process. Compared to other ROS, R-O• had the largest contribution ratio (more than 85%) to pollutant degradation. Further analysis demonstrated that C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 and N11 concentrated on the aniline group of SMX are the main attack sites based on the density functional theory (DFT) results, which is consistent with the degradation products. The toxicity of contaminants was obviously reduced after removing in this system. Furthermore, Co2Ca1Al1-LDO showed good reusability and stability, and Co2Ca1Al1-LDO/PAA system had excellent removal ability in actual water bodies containing inorganic anions, showing good application potential. Importantly, this study explored the feasibility of applying LDO catalysts in PAA-based AOPs for micropollutants elimination, providing new insights for subsequent research.

The overall purpose of this study is to explore and examine whether high-performance work systems (HPWS) can impact thriving at work and job burnout via resilience at work among nurses in Chinese public hospitals. Specifically, it draws on social exchange theory to conceptualize a positive relationship between HPWS and resilience at work. Then, based on a socially embedded model of thriving at work and knowledge about job burnout in the literature, it further proposes the differentiated mediation roles of resilience at work in the relationship of HPWS to thriving at work and job burnout. A time-lagged survey involving three rounds of data collection with self-reported online questionnaires was employed. A total of 160 nurses from 20 public hospitals in China were invited to participate in the research. Finally, a sample of 845 responses was obtained. The response rate was 52.8%. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses. It was found that HPWS (time 1) positively impacted resilience at work (time 2). The results also demonstrated that HPWS (time1) enhanced thriving at work (time 3) and reduced job burnout (time 3) via developing resilience at work (time 2). To conclude, being resilient in the workplace is crucial for nurses to enhance thriving at work, and inhabit job burnout among nurses. HPWS is a valid management tool that can be used to cultivate a nurse's resilience at work, which further reduces job burnout and enhance thriving at work.

In condensed matter physics, oxide materials show various intriguing physical properties. Therefore, many efforts are made in this field to develop functional oxides. Due to the excellent potential for tin-based perovskite oxides, an expansion of new related functional compounds is crucial. This work uses a heteroepitaxial approach supported by theoretical calculation to stabilize PbSnO3 thin films with different orientations. The analyses of X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy unveil the structural information. A typical antiferroelectric feature with double hysteresis and butterfly loops is observed through electrical characterizations consistent with the theoretical prediction. The phase transition is monitored, and the transition temperatures are determined based on temperature-dependent structural and electrical characterizations. Furthermore, the microscopic antiferroelectric order is noticed under atomic resolution images via scanning transmission electron microscopy. This work offers a breakthrough in synthesizing epitaxial PbSnO3 thin films and comprehensively understanding its anisotropic antiferroelectric behavior.

Skin epidermis secretes apical extracellular matrix (aECM) as a protective barrier from the external environment. The aECM is highly dynamic and constantly undergoes remodeling during animal development. How aECM dynamics is temporally regulated during development, and whether and how its mis-regulation may impact epidermal cell morphology or function remains to be fully elucidated. Here, we report that the conserved Zn-finger transcription factor BLMP-1/Blimp1, which regulates epidermal development in C. elegans, controls apical cell shape of the epidermis by downregulation of aECM remodeling. Loss of blmp-1 causes upregulation of genes essential for molting, including bus-8 and mlt-8, in adult, leading to an abnormal shape in the apical region of adult epidermal cells. The apical epidermal morphological defect is suppressed by reduction of bus-8 or mlt-8. BUS-8 is a key mannosyltransferase, which functions in glycosylation of N-linked glycoproteins; MLT-8 has a ganglioside GM2 lipid-binding domain and is implicated in signaling during molting, a process where the old cuticle is shed and synthesized anew. Overexpression of bus-8 or mlt-8 induces an apical epidermal cell defect as observed in blmp-1 mutants. MLT-8::GFP fusion protein is localized to lysosomes and secreted to aECM. BUS-8 is important for MLT-8 stability and lysosomal targeting, which may be regulated by BUS-8-mediated glycosylation of MLT-8 and function as a molting signaling cue in aECM remodeling. We propose that BLMP-1 represses MLT-8 expression and glycosylation in the epidermis to prevent inappropriate aECM remodeling, which is essential for maintenance of apical epidermal cell morphology during larva-to-adult transition.

Strontium titanate (STO), with a wide spectrum of emergent properties such as ferroelectricity and superconductivity, has received significant attention in the community of strongly correlated materials. In the strain-free STO film grown on the SrRuO3 buffer layer, the existing polar nanoregions can facilitate room-temperature ferroelectricity when the STO film thickness approaches 10 nm. Here we show that around this thickness scale, the freestanding STO films without the influence of a substrate show the tetragonal structure at room temperature, contrasting with the cubic structure seen in bulk form. The spectroscopic measurements reveal the modified Ti-O orbital hybridization that causes the Ti ion to deviate from its nominal 4+ valency (3d0 configuration) with excess delocalized 3d electrons. Additionally, the Ti ion in TiO6 octahedron exhibits an off-center displacement. The inherent symmetry lowering in ultrathin freestanding films offers an alternative way to achieve tunable electronic structures that are of paramount importance for future technological applications.

Ranunculus japonicus is an important medicinal herb widely used in East Asia. In this study, we report the first complete chloroplast genome sequence of Ranunculus japonicus using next-generation sequencing technology. The chloroplast genome size of R. japonicus was 156,981 bp. A total of 129 genes were included, consisting 84 protein-coding genes, eight rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. Thirteen protein-coding genes had intron (ycf3 gene, rps12 gene, rps12 gene, clpP gene contained two introns). A further phylogenomic analysis of Ranunculaceae, including 10 taxa, was conducted for assessing the placement of R. japonicus. It will provide valuable genetic information for this medicinally important species.

Programmed cell death (PCD) is a common cell fate in metazoan development. PCD effectors are extensively studied, but how they are temporally regulated is less understood. Here, we report a mechanism controlling tail-spike cell death onset during Caenorhabditis elegans development. We show that the zinc-finger transcription factor BLMP-1, which controls larval development timing, also regulates embryonic tail-spike cell death initiation. BLMP-1 functions upstream of CED-9 and in parallel to DRE-1, another CED-9 and tail-spike cell death regulator. BLMP-1 expression is detected in the tail-spike cell shortly after the cell is born, and blmp-1 mutations promote ced-9-dependent tail-spike cell survival. BLMP-1 binds ced-9 gene regulatory sequences, and inhibits ced-9 transcription just before cell-death onset. BLMP-1 and DRE-1 function together to regulate developmental timing, and their mammalian homologs regulate B-lymphocyte fate. Our results, therefore, identify roles for developmental timing genes in cell-death initiation, and suggest conservation of these functions.

As an important medicinal herb, no complete organelle molecular data has been reported for Tubocapsicum anomalum. In this study, the first complete chloroplast genome of Tubocapsicum anomalum Makino was sequenced and assembled. The genome is 155,802 bp in length and contained 124 encoded genes in total, including 75 protein-coding genes, 10 ribosomal RNA genes, and 39 transfer RNA genes. The phylogenomic analysis showed that Tubocapsicum anomalum was closely related to Withania somnifera according the current sampling extent.
